WK 13: Metallic Vase Continued, plus Jade Artifact Scan
It’s crazy how fast time flies by! These past two weeks my team and I were trouble shooting different issues we had the week before, and I documented a lot of my workflow/process into loom videos for the rest of the team to refer to! In my last blog we experience some issues with the lighting in Houdini not looking quite right and we realized that it was an issue with the normals we generated for the Vase. We did some testing and were able to produce new normals for the vase and below are some comparison videos/images of what we have:

Substance Designer to Houdini
I also have been moving my Substance Designer workflow to Houdini Copernicus instead to see if could be a better workflow and if we can use less programs. So far Copernicus is able to do a lot of the same things as Copernicus, however Substance Designer performs much faster (at least on my computer) than Houdini. It also has more nodes that I can work with, while Copernicus doesn’t have the same nodes so I have to find new or round about ways. I believe that we can use Copernicus moving forward but it just takes me a little longer to create texture maps compared to Substance Designer:

We were also able to get a new scan in this past week of a Jade Buddha Statue! Currently we are still working on the textures and creating the lighting setup for it, but here is the scan in Reality Scan:
